Whoever said “money can’t buy happiness” was a complete idiot. Of course, since happiness isn’t a tangible thing, but money brings happiness everyday. It pays for families to live in their house, eat food, and go on vacations. And if you really believe that money can’t buy happiness then don’t donate to any charities: that money won’t help ANYONE’S condition. Those people who need your money AREN’T HAPPY AT ALL WHEN THEY RECEIVE A DONATION. So shut up: money CAN buy happiness.

What is an endorphin?

Endorphins are pain-killing proteins that function as neurotransmitters. Trying to tap into your inner freshman biology class buried in the back of your brain? Don’t sweat it. I’m in ninth grade and I can’t even remember things I learned in the beginning of the year in that class.

Here’s a quick refresher: Neurotransmitters are chemicals that transmit signals from a neuron to a target cell across a synapse. Neurotransmitters are packaged into synaptic vesicles and are released into the synaptic cleft, where they bind to receptors in the membrane on the other side of the synapse. Release of neurotransmitters usually follows arrival of an action potential at the synapse.

Anyway, endorphins are produced by the pituitary gland and the hypothalamus in vertebrates during exercise, excitement, pain, love, orgasms, and even consumption of spicy foods. Endorphins have the ability to produce analgesia (relieving pain) and a feeling of well-being.

And this has to do about getting high… I don’t get it?

Okay, so the first thing you need to know about is the “runner’s high.” It occurs after strenuous exercise takes a person over a threshold that activates endorphin production. Endorphins are released during long, continuous workouts, when the level of intensity is between moderate and high, and breathing is difficult. Usually when endorphins are released, the body believes the person is exposed to bodily harm from strenuous bodily functions after going past his or her body’s physical limit. Because of this, runners can keep running despite pain, continuously surpassing what they otherwise would consider to be their limit. Runner’s high has also been known to create feelings of euphoria and happiness. 

Endorphins are the body’s natural chemical that interacts with the same brain receptor responsible for causing the high associated with the use of a psychoactive drug, like marijuana.

A psychoactive drug is a chemical substance acts primarily upon the central nervous system… Hold on a sec. How bout another refresher?

The central nervous system consists of the spinal cord and it receives information from the body. It also carries the nerves that control all your movements. It uses this information to help you react, remember, think and plan, and then sends out the appropriate instructions to your body.

Okay. So a psychoactive drug affects brain function, resulting in changes in perception, mood, consciousness, cognition, and behavior.

Endorphins are part of a group of neuromodulatory (electrical stimulation of a nerve, the spinal cord, or the brain for relief of pain) lipids and their receptors that are involved in a variety of physiological processes including appetite, pain-sensation, mood, and memory; it mediates the psychoactive effects of cannabis.

Uh oh. Here comes cannabis, also known as marijuana. It’s gonna get a bit complicated here, but the huge names aren’t gonna matter. Chemically, the major psychoactive compound in marijuana is delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol, is one of 400 compounds in the plant, including other cannabinoids, such as THCV, which can produce sensory effects unlike the psychoactive effects of THC.

This topic can be a bit complicated, with lots of detail about how the active ingredients of marijuana affect the inner-workings of the brain. Let’s just say that cannabis has what are called psychoactive chemicals, the main one being ‘tetrahydrocannabinol’ or THC for short.

When you smoke a joint, the THC goes into your lungs, and then into your heart, which pumps it into your bloodstream which then takes it directly to your brain. When you smoke marijuana, it only takes a few minutes for the THC to get to your brain.

Once it’s in your brain, the THC activates endorphin receptors and gives you the feeling of being high. But you can get the same high, the “runner’s high” while burning off calories.

HEY, HEY, HEY! Looks like someone found the solution to obesity and drug addictions! Haha, I’m only joking about that. I only did all this research because I sprinted beyond a threshold of mine and I started seeing everything in 3-D. It was cray cray. Just something to think about. :)

Some are easy to read, and other dreams make no sense. Yet I always try to know what my subconscious is saying to me.

Anyway, the one I had last night was quite literal. Basically I was in a circle with a bunch of other kids, all saying what we wanted to do when we grew older. Everyone said the same thing as me: management consultant/analyst. I felt so unoriginal. 

Does this mean to give up my future job of mine because there will be too much competition, and the work would be meaningless to me? OR does this mean to stick with it because in the long run everyone else will be following me? 

SO CONFUSING!! Please help?
